According to the CDC, 35.7% of Americans are obese in the Unites States. There is no need to argue this figure as we can look around our own communities to see this figure is near the truth.
Outside chronic health issues, debilitating accidents and the like, there is no reason our people should be obese.
Outside of chronic health issues, what causes obesity? According to WEbMD "Obesity is a complex disease for which no single cause or cure exists. You gain weight when you take in more calories than you burn off." The last part of the quote is what we need to focus on.
Here are my thoughts:
1. Lack of self control: We need to learn self control and then teach it to our children. Our modern society has bought into the lie of over indulgence, instant gratification, do less get more. This philosophy shows its ugly face in many ways. One way it shows its face is by use of credit. The people in our nation are in debt for the same reasons they are obese; they do not exhibit self control. We need to be the trend setters to reverse this philosophy. We must practice self control in all areas of our life. We must be our own master.
2. Laziness: In the old days, in order to have a meal, one would either have to grow crops, pick berries, or hunt. The process of eating a good meal was quite an ordeal. Let me paint a scenario. Wake up before dawn, work in the fields all day for months to grow a crop, then weeks of harvesting, then the whole process of actually cooking the meal. No micro waves, no gas stoves or electric stoves, no frozen instant meals. Think of all the effort put into growing, harvesting, and then preparing meals. Today, most of us do not grow food. Most of us do not harvest food. We don't even prepare food. We have lost an appreciation for what actually is involved with creating food. Our grocery stores are filled with great selections of fresh foods, yet we are to lazy to buy them. We would rather pop sludge into the microwave and serve it to our families. I just don't understand how our good, noble, hard working, educated people allow this to occur.
3. Lack of Exercise: I believe that one of the most beautiful creations in the universe is the human body. The human body is absolutely stunning. It has been marveled by all the words greatest cultures. We have scultped it, drawn it, painted it, and sought to adorn it. At the same time, seeing an unhealthy representation of this beautiful creation pains my soul. We have been given this beautiful gift of body, we must cherish it and exercise it. Exercise as a family, take family walks, do neighborhood service together. I will not go into all the benefits of exercise in this post, however among the many benefits you will find, happiness, well being, stronger heart, mind, reduced stress, and increased intelligence.
We are a beautiful people, we were meant to be healthy, our bodies were designed to function a certain way. Obesty is not natural. The majority of obesity is a direct result from a lack of self control, laziness, and a lack of exercise. Our people are to smart to be outwitted by this type of epidemic. If you are among the obese, take this message to heart and develop self control, take pride in preparing healthy meals, and begin to exercise.
The media has taken 2 directions on obesity:
Philosophy 1: Its ok to be obese and beauty is on the inside and not the outside.
I do not agree that it is ok to be obese. I do agree that beauty is more than skin deep. I believe true beauty is the reflection of how one lives. Morality, self control, rejection of laziness, and hard work begin to create beauty.
Philosophy 2: You need drugs or surgery provided by a large government in order to lose weight and without this help, the problem is too big to defeat.
I disagree with this thought as well. I promise you that if you practice self control, put energy into creating and eating healthy foods, and exercise, you will lose weight or avoid obesity all together.
We can beat obesity the same way we can beat immoralty, debt, divorce, and a myriad of other issues; Self Control.
Men and women, I invite you to renew your oath of loving and cherishing your families by practicing self control in all areas of you life. Please join me in this commitment. If you do, I know that your life will change, we will beat obesity, immorality, debt and other issues facing our community. When we beat these issues, our people will be strengthened. When we are strengthened, we will be powerful, when we are powerful, we will reclaim our country.
Best Wishes - ConcernedMajority
